You may remember that about 4 months ago we brought home a basset hound from the local humane society. Just like our older dog, Gus, he has quite a personality. It’s taken some time for us to get used to having a young puppy in the house again (the shelter said he was a year, the vet said a little older, we feel strongly he was a little less than a year when we got him). He is full of energy and curiosity and loves to play. A few weeks ago he got into a brown paper bag of fresh bread my husband had baked the day earlier and ate a whole loaf.
This morning my husband’s alarm went off at 5 am and Archie was up and ready to go for a walk… even though I still had 45 more minutes to sleep in! He is very expressive with his paws and likes to come around the side of the bed and very aggressively paw at us. The other morning my husband opened his eyes and Archie barked right in his face. It’s all out of love, though.
Gus & Archie have become the best of friends. They love to play together and chase each other. Archie loves to curl up with Gus and take a nap. I even caught Gus grooming Archie the other morning which made me so happy.
My recovery this week has gone really well. I had taken Monday off from work which gave me an opportunity to just lay around and relax. I haven’t run at all this week, but I did walk at least a mile each day on our regular dog walks. At this point my legs feel back to normal, but I am going to wait until probably Sunday to do a short, easy run. I’m actually not eager to jump back into running right away. I want to take full advantage of this week off before easing back into things. It’s now just starting to sink in that I’m a marathoner.
I don’t have any races planned for the rest of the year. A friend & I are talking about doing the A Christmas Story 5K together, but this will be fun and I won’t be racing it. It’s my favorite Christmas movie and she has done the 5K previously so it would be fun to do together. I plan to ramp my mileage back up over the month of November to keep a solid base for half marathon training in the new year. I’m hoping to hit a few trails and run on the newest multi-use trail in the next two months. I am 97% decided on what half I want to do, but I am going to take the next few weeks to look into a few others before making a final decision.
Also, this happened at work today…
Halloween is a pretty big deal at our office so next week should be fun.
